Spin-In, with unusual Fibres and Blends!

The Spin-In Workshop, Saturday, October 21st run by Eirian, was a huge success and fun was had by all!

Eirian provided us with some unusual fibres including corn, seacell, soya, bamboo, tencel, plastic (made from recycled bottles) and even repurposed denim! We did have some boring old animal fibres such as sheep, angora and possum (really) as well as silk thread and tri-lobel nylon to liven things up.

Thank you Eirian for a great day!

Heather and Carol trying to decide!!!!

Mary and Isobel hard at work!

Sue blending her next creation and Christine taking her spinning very seriously!

Some great samples to take home!

The members of the Tawe Guild recently made Twiddle Muffs to donate to the Welsh Ambulance Service!

The Ambulance attendants find these colorful and busy muffs a huge help to keep patients with dementia occupied during trips in an ambulance!

Thank you everyone who put the effort in to make these muffs!

Workshop - Dyeing wool with food colouring

The Saturday after the spinning retreat, Rachel led a workshop at the Cross, on dyeing with food colouring.  Beautiful results!

Tawe Guild Spinning Retreat

From 11th to 13th March a large group of us went to Plas Tan y Bwlch in Snowdonia, for our own spinning retreat - a  heavenly weekend of spinning, in beautiful surroundings.  Thanks very much to our tutors, Ann and Chris, for leading so many interesting workshop session - silk spinning, drop spindling, fractal spinning and lots more; (and of course thanks very very much to Liz for organising it all).  Here are some photos.

Last month, March 2016, at Tawe Guild

March was a very busy and thoroughly enjoyable month for the

Tawe Guild , starting with some of our members spending a day demonstrating at Swansea Hobbycraft. Back at the Cross Community Centre, guild members were busy preparing for the spinning retreat, by dyeing wool tops, (for fractal spinning).

Spinning wool tops- February workshop

January workshop- felt landscapes

Guild Workshops - January and February 2016

It's still only February, but already the members of Tawe Guild have been able to take part in two excellent Saturday workshops.  January's workshop was on Creating Felt Landscapes, with Pat Johnson.  Then a couple of days ago we had a day on Spinning with Wool Tops, with Eirian Roberts (and the workshop included a session by Liz on making punis and using a blending board).  At both workshops, we all learnt lots of new skills (though most of us agreed we'd still got lots to learn!) and had loads of fun. Photos of both workshops to follow, very soon.
